Live and Let Die

Gameplay

Live and Let Die was inspired by the movie where Bond and Baron Samedi duel it out in a fit of black magic and traditional espionage. In this scenario, a random player is selected to play as Baron Samedi at the start of every round. As the Baron you are tasked with eliminating all the other players (we call them “Bonds”). As a Bond you are tasked with eliminating the Baron. The catch is, the Baron can only be killed by the Golden Gun. Any other weapon will simply cause the Baron to be reincarnated growing in strength and power. This game is a balance between grabbing and retaining the Golden Gun and trying not to be eliminated by the Baron. The Baron has a secret weapon on his side: Voodoo Powers. When you are the Baron, by pressing g (default) you can use the Baron's power to teleport yourself to another location on the map instantly while also leveling up. This is useful to get away from the Bond wielding the Golden Gun. You can also recharge your voodoo powers by killing a Bond with your knife to a maximum of 4 uses.

Baron's Rules

One player is selected at random every round to play as the Baron. As the Baron your objective is to eliminate all the other players (Bonds) and to avoid being shot with the Golden Gun at all costs. The only way for the Baron to lose is to be killed by the Golden Gun. You have at your disposal a Voodoo power that allows you to teleport to another location on the map and level up at will, but you are limited in your powers.

The Baron moves at a speed relative to the number of players left alive. The more players there are, the slower the Baron can move. As the Baron eliminates players he moves faster and faster making him more formidable later in the round.

Health and Armor

The Baron's health dial is only affected by Golden Gun damage. He has the equivalent of 5000HP, thus the Golden Gun will kill him with one shot to the head, two to the body, or four to the limbs. The Baron's armor dial acts as his health for any other weapons and has a cap of 160AP. When the Baron spawns he gets 100AP. If the Baron loses all of his AP he will die, respawn somewhere else, and increase in level (more on that later). The Baron can pickup armor like every other player to restore his AP dial.

Weapons and Leveling

The Baron starts at level 1 and is given the first weapon in the weaponset along with a knife (machete). The Baron's weapon load out is entirely controlled by his level and he cannot pickup weapons on the ground. The Baron receives each successive weapon in the weaponset up until level 8. At level 9 the Baron receives an increased attack percentage starting with +13% and increasing up to a maximum of +2000% at level 35. At level 35, every hit will be instantly lethal except a hit with the Klobb to the legs to a full HP/AP player.

To level up the Baron can uses his Voodoo power (explained below) or be killed with normal weaponry/explosions. The Baron can never lose a level.

Voodoo Powers

The Baron is able to escape a confrontation by relocating to a random spawn point by using his Voodoo powers. The Baron starts the round with 3 Voodoo powers as indicated on the HUD progress bar. If ld_bloodlust is active the Baron can reclaim Voodoo power by killing players with the knife (machete) to a maximum of 4 stored powers. Every time you use the Voodoo power you increase in level, but must wait a refractory period before being able to use the powers again.

Bond's Rules

As a Bond (any other player that is not selected as the Baron) your objective is to grab the Golden Gun and kill the Baron. Every other player is trying to do the same thing so there is some competition, but one should work with the other Bonds at points to vanquish the Baron with lead if he is imposing. If you are killed by the Baron you are eliminated from the round and must wait until the Baron is killed, the Baron eliminates all the players, or the round time ends.

If you commit suicide you will be eliminated from the round.

Combat against the Baron

Normal weapons are almost completely ineffective against the Baron. Thus, they are of defensive use only and should be deemed a “last resort.” By depleting the Baron's armor, the Baron will respawn and become someone else's problem, however he will increase in level making him harder to kill the next time. If a player is killed by the Baron, they are eliminated for the duration of the round. Use of the Golden Gun is the only way a player can defeat the Baron; doing so ends the round.

Combat against other Bonds

Players battle each other for possession of the Golden Gun, since a player must use it to win the round. A player killed by another player does not earn a point for the attacker and does not eliminate the victim. One can use kills against other players to prevent a player from grabbing the Golden Gun, saving the player from the wrath of the Baron, or simply to annoy them by removing them from play for the respawn delay.

Radar

LALD Radar as a Bond LALD Radar as the Baron The radar display for Live and Let Die is crucial to knowing your next move. The Baron is shown as a faded green face on the radar. The face is intentionally hard to see and does not indicate the above/below positioning of the Baron to increase suspense. Other Bonds are shown as green blips. The Golden Gun will appear as the respective icon if it is on the ground or, if it is held by a player, the player will show as a bright gold blip.

Scoring

Each round has a bounty determined by how many players are in the round when admission to the game is locked for the round. The round is locked on the first non-Baron player death. Before this time, players logging in or who started in spectator may still join. Once the round has begun (and is locked), switching to spectator removes you from the round.

The Baron earns a point whenever he eliminates a player and retains that point even if he is killed by the Golden Gun. If a player dropped out of the round pre-maturely and the Baron wins the round, he will receive the entire bounty regardless of the number of actual kills he dealt.

The Bonds can only earn points by killing Baron Samedi with the Golden Gun. Killing him is worth the round's bounty. Thus, the players are in an all-or-nothing situation.

If the Baron commits suicide, all surviving players receive points for winning the round.
